Organizational Unit Overview
The division of Health Sciences is the largest and most complex division within the University, employing more than 700 EPA employees and 1,700 SPA employees. The Division is composed of numerous Centers, Institutes, and agencies such as the East Carolina Heart Institute and Eastern Area Health Education Center, the Colleges of Allied Health Sciences and Nursing, the Brody School of Medicine, the School of Dental Medicine, and the Laupus Health Sciences Library. In addition to the academic and administrative responsibilities of the division, the four professional schools provide clinical services all over eastern North Carolina in a variety of settings and venues.The School of Dental Medicine is composed of five administrative offices and three academic divisions. The Administrative units include the Office of the Dean, Associate Dean for Planning and Extramural Affairs, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, adjunct Dean for Dental Education and Informatics, adjunct Dean for Academic Support and Faculty Development and the Office of Business and Financial Affairs. The three academic divisions are Surgical Sciences, Orthodontics/Pediatric Dentistry and General Dentistry.Included in the mission of the School of Dental Medicine is to educate dental care providers (both dental students and dental residents) and to address the oral health care needs of the underserved population of North Carolina. The School of Dental Medicine meets these missions by operating dental clinics that provide both educational practices for the dental students and residents and provides dental care to the residents of North Carolina. These clinics occur in both Ross Hall in Greenville, North Carolina, as well as Community Service Learning Centers located through-out North Carolina. In order to operate these clinics, appropriate dental auxiliaries and clinical staff are needed. Job location: Sylva, NC
Job tasks
tasks of this position include but are not limited to: Patient preparation and patient flow; Access patient information, charts as directed by dental students, dental residents, and faculty dentist; Participate in dental exams and procedures; Follow the OSHA standards for hand washing, masking, gloving and disposal of contaminants; Monitor patients as they are receiving treatment; Perform dental x-rays as ordered by the dentist; Transport patients as needed; Monitor sterilization of equipment; Order supplies as needed; Efficiently use the instrumentation for dentistry; Use the computer to access the electronic dental records; Handle all paperwork for referrals; Work with all categories of personnel, medical (dental) records, business office, lab, x-ray, and physicians; Perform secretarial tasks as needed; Participate in the education of dental students and dental residents.
