GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
The Arts and Humanities department includes disciplines in Anthropology, Art, Humanities, Music, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Theatre and World Languages (American Sign Language, French, and Spanish). Under minimal supervision and in collaboration with the Dean, the Associate Dean is responsible for the everyday Arts and Humanities Department academic operation and management of office staff, and approximately 20 adjunct faculty. The Associate Dean must convey a professional and positive image as a representative of Kirkwood Community College. Must exercise exceptional organizational expertise, independent judgment, initiative, and confidentiality in the prosperous operation of the department. Requires the capability to lead, supervise, problem solve and interact positively with a diverse group of people. An knowledge of technology in higher education and office productivity is necessary.

tasks/Job responsibilities:
   .
   » Plan, coordinate and promote credit programming and initiatives with the department faculty and staff in collaboration with the Dean, Department Coordinator and other college departments.
   » Identify current and emerging trends and opportunities in the disciplines represented in the department to develop and maintain visionary and responsive courses, student support services, and community partnerships.
   » Lead and supervise adjunct faculty, including those teaching Arts and Humanities courses at off-site locations to ensure curriculum consistency.
   » Promote adjunct faculty development; recommend, coordinate, and lead activities to meet faculty development and program goals.
   » Plan, coordinate, and promote programming and initiatives with the department faculty in collaboration with the Dean, and other college departments.
   » Develop, implement, and supervise applicable program goals, operating policies, and procedures in collaboration with the Dean.
   » Monitor student enrollment; work collaboratively to develop marketing, recruitment, and retention strategies.
   » Manage day-to-day program operations including student registration policies/procedures, student issues, supervising office staff, faculty communications and other departmental activities.
   » Assist in faculty workload decisions to insure appropriate staffing, equity, and efficient resource utilization.
   » Assist with department budget allocation and monitoring.
   » Provide leadership abilities and point of contact for faculty and staff in the absence of the Dean.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

MINIMUM Appropriate qualifications:
   .
   » Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in one of the disciplines represented in the department or closely related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in the discipline.
   » Demonstrated prosperous teaching practice in higher education.
   » Three years of related leadership abilities practice.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND practice:
   » Community college teaching practice.
   » knowledge of applied arts disciplines.
   » Ph.D. in one of the department disciplines.
