Essential Job tasks:
The Senior Classification and Compensation Consultant will perform complex, professional-level human resources consultant work in classification and compensation for faculty (tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure track) and administrative positions with concurrent faculty appointments.
Activities include, but are not limited to:
   » Determining the appropriate appointment type and category by applying policies and guidelines from the UNC System Office, the UNC Board of Governors, and NC State;
   » Advising colleges and academic units on compensation matters and determining appropriate pay;
   » Ensuring compliance with income policies and guidelines and partnering with the UNC System Office to secure income approvals as needed;
   » Assisting substantively with market determinations and the development and maintenance of faculty income ranges; and advising on policies and best practices related to faculty and administrative appointments with faculty rank.
The position serves in a lead function for other classification and compensation analysts for issues related to EHRA positions, appointments, and salaries, and serves in the lead function for the Classification and Compensation unit in the Director's absence.
The incumbent will conduct complex analytical studies on human resources issues, collecting, analyzing and interpreting data and statistics and researching information. The senior consultant will require frequent interaction with senior administrators, managers, and college/division HR representatives. The incumbent will participate in special projects within University Human Resources (UHR) and with the Office of the Provost, colleges, and other units. The incumbent will plan, develop, and present a variety of training regarding policies, procedures, and best practices related to human resources administration, position classification, and compensation.

Minimum practice/suitable education
Bachelor's degree and two years of progressively responsible professional human resources management practice; or an equivalent combination of training and practice.
All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Appropriate qualifications:
   » Demonstrated practice and/or expertise of job analysis for a full range of occupational fields, compensation principles and techniques, job design, organizational design, statistical analysis, income surveys, and project management.
   » Advanced-level expertise of significant human resources laws, policies, procedures and regulations and the capability to apply them appropriately. The tasks of this position frequently involve the application of NC State, UNC System, State and federal laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines.
   » Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (or similar program), database queries, and analytic tools. Must have the capability to leverage different HR systems and/or applications (e.g. PeopleAdmin, PeopleSoft, etc.) for analysis and reporting purposes.
   » Demonstrated capability to develop and cultivate effective working relationships with people at various levels within an organization
   » Demonstrated capability to effectively lead initiatives and projects
   » Exceptional communication expertise with the capability to convey complex messages and concepts clearly and completely to a diverse audience
   » Strong organizational expertise with the capability to effectively prioritize and complete everyday tasks as well as short- and long-term projects concurrently
   » capability to develop and deliver formal and informal training and presentations
   » capability to conceptualize, develop, and implement creative solutions covering a wide variety of University HR needs
Preferred Appropriate qualifications:
   » Demonstrated practice in job analysis and classification, organizational design, statistical analysis, and project management.
   » Demonstrated practice conducting complex income analyses and developing and applying effective compensation solutions
   » practice performing labor market studies utilizing a variety of sources and participating in external income surveys
   » practice in higher education human resources
   » Familiarity with related State of North Carolina and UNC system policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulations.
   » practice using a sophisticated enterprise-located Human Resources Information Management System (i.e. PeopleSoft) and Talent Management/Applicant Tracking System (i.e. PeopleAdmin, PeopleClick)
   » World@Work and/or SHRM/HRCI certification or coursework
