The Department of Animal Science offers undergraduate and graduate programs on the biology and management of food, laboratory, and companion animal species. Our research programs advance our knowledge of animal biology and address local and global issues facing animal industries today. Our goals are to discover and develop new techniques and information to benefit animals, agriculture, and human health. The Department's 19 faculty members, many internationally recognized, have diverse interests in animal management, breeding, genetics, physiology, nutrition, growth biology, and microbiology.

What You Will Do

Under very general supervision, provide a wide variety of complex administrative and financial support services for Faculty members with large teaching and extension programs. Responsible for serving as first-line contact and answer inquiries for students, international visitors, Extension Associates and Faculty. Manage highly sensitive and/or confidential materials, communications, and event planning. Specific tasks include:
   » Developing and maintaining a broad knowledge of the department's research and extension goals, including knowledge of faculty extension projects and sponsors and department events.
   » Coordinating complex travel arrangements and itineraries for faculty and visitors to the department.
   » Monitoring proposals for compliance with all sponsor requirements/guidelines.
   » Assisting with submission of paper and on-line proposals within specified time frames.
   » Coordinating web page design and maintenance for class websites.
   » Utilizing a variety of computer applications to prepare, compose and edit complex correspondence, manuscripts, class materials, slides, brochures, and grant forms.
   » Facilitating events held on and off-campus.
   » Coordinating all aspects of conferences which includes negotiating with vendors, travel accommodations, preparing conference mailings, tracking registrations, etc.

This position is part-time (20 hours/week) and will be located in Ithaca, New York.

What We Need

We are seeking for an individual that excels at building relationships with multiple stakeholders. We need someone that has strong customer service expertise with a focus on excellence. Additionally, we need someone who has:
   » High School Diploma with more than 2+ years of practice in an administrative setting or the equivalent combination of education and practice.
   » Must be independent and a self-starter that can support the efforts of a team structure.
   » Excellent customer service expertise.
   » Demonstrated practice with multiple computer software programs, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Adobe.
   » Must be familiar with conducting internet searches and maintaining various web pages.
   » Excellent oral and written communication expertise.
   » capability to work effectively with others in a team environment.
   » capability to maintain a professional atmosphere in a busy office setting.
   » Able to work quickly and effectively under pressure while using judgment in accomplishing urgent tasks.
   » capability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
   » Requires reasoning, analytical capability, creativity, and innovation in solving everyday problems.
   » Be detail-oriented, accurate and thorough.
   » Excellent organizational expertise.
   » capability to handle sensitive / confidential material and maintain strict confidentiality in a professional manner.
   » Must exercise sound and ethical judgment when acting on behalf of the University.

   » Advanced familiarity with Cornell systems highly desirable including Kuali Financial System.
   » Familiarity with Blackboard.
   » Prior practice in an academic setting valuable and/or supporting academic program activities.
