Position Summary
The Jones Graduate School of Business (JGSB) also known as Rice|Business at Rice University is committed to delivering a top-tier business education to a diverse group of high-performing students. The director, business information resources is responsible for the administration of the Business Information Center (BIC). This includes budget oversight and hiring, training, and review of staff. S/he is the point person for in-depth research assistance using a broad range of digital and print resources, course-related and resource-specific instruction, and collection development for all areas of business in support of the curriculum and faculty research at JGSB, as well as business-related research across campus. BIC staff consists of 2.5 paraprofessionals and six to ten students. S/he manages research analysts (who support faculty research) and serves as the liaison to the Department of Economics and as a member of the Fondren Library Research Data Management Team. This position reports to the Dean of JGSB, with a dotted line to the adjunct university librarian for Research Services in Fondren Library. Active participation in library committees and project team work, as well as commitments to professional development, are expected.

Related practice as a business librarian, or prior significant practice in a corporate/business environment, preferably with managery and budgetary responsibilities, in-depth expertise of a broad range of business and economics research resources, including specialized subscription databases and government statistics, with some practice delivering library instruction and research support services, and building and maintaining digital and print collections, including vendor negotiations.

- Demonstrated broad expertise of library automation systems, online resources, and instructional technologies

- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills and a demonstrated capability to work well with others in a team environment

- Familiarity with the Springshare platform (LibGuides & LibAnswers)
- Familiarity with statistical platforms such as WRDS and Bloomberg
- Strong proficiency with MS office suite, particularly Excel

Job Functions
Essential Functions
- Manages staff in the day-to-day operations including hiring, career coaching, personal development for direct reports and accountable for the performance of employees
- Ensures work completion within schedule and constraints
- Develops and maintains the core research services of the library or unit to optimize the capability of customers to locate, assess, and use information
- Collects, prepares and analyzes reports and statistics

- Selects library materials and information resources in a broad or interdisciplinary area, including responsibility for collection management, preservation decision-making, donor relations and liaison with users
- Engages in outreach with academic and administrative departments
- Coordinates work plan and related planning initiatives, policies and procedures responsive to the organization's mission, goals, and objectives
- Stays current on technology trends and evaluates emerging technologies for adoption and implementation to enhance library programs, services and collections
- Reviews and approves expenditures, cost recoveries and tracks against the approved budget
- Performs all other tasks as assigned
